RYDA – Roadsafe Youth Driver Awareness

The Rotary Club of Victor Harbor conjointly with the Rotary Club of Encounter Bay annually supports this great initiative, with the inclusion of schools situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula, participating annually.

RYDA provides first quality road safety information to youth to help ensure when they commence driving, they have the best road safety education possible.

RYDA a not-for-profit company (limited by guarantee), is an organisation that has developed a road safety education program delivered to the youth of our community through Rotary Clubs. The Program is directed towards our young people about road safety as they approach the period in their life when they start driving a car and ride as a passenger in a car driven by one of their peers.

RYDA provides support to schools who wish to educate teenagers to be responsible drivers, and works in conjunction with SAPOL.

RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

RYLA is a 7 day residential leadership seminar for aspiring leaders aged 18 to 25 years. The week incorporates a lot of self-development, through a variety of mechanisms including reflection (individually and as a team), team work, sports and outdoor activities, dancing, and many others. Participants can seize the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and problem solving skills, can practice new behaviours, forge life-long friends and challenge their personal belief systems and values.

Rotary Club of Victor Harbor Initiatives

Dr Fred Heddle Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Victor Harbor Dr Fred Heddle Scholarship has been established to promote the continuing education of youth of Victor Harbor and the surrounding area when financial constraints create great difficulty for the student.

The Rotary Club of Victor Harbor created a scholarship to honour Dr Fred Heddle, OAM, in recognition of his exceptional service to Rotary and the community. This scholarship is not offered on academic merit alone, but awarded on commitment to succeed given the opportunity which would not normally be within their financial circumstances.

  • Applications: The Rotary Club of Victor Harbor will advertise in October each year, inviting applicants to complete an Application Form.

Senior School Captain public speaking program

As an initiative of the Rotary Club of Victor Harbor, we wish to encourage and allow youth to gain skills in public speaking.

An invitation is presented to the Senior Schools of the Fleurieu Peninsula, for their School Captains to speak to the Rotary Club of Victor Harbor members, at an agreed fortnightly normal dinner meeting.

It is felt with such an experience, and the skills gained, their attendance, will assist the participants with self-confidents and public speaking skills, outside the normal comfort zone of their peers, and the School system, where they attend.

Youth Parliament participation:

Supported by the Rotary Club of Victor Harbour, the YMCA SA Youth Parliament is an apolitical program that empowers young people to be advocates for their community. It aims to connect politicians and decision makers with youth voices and opinions while providing young people in South Australia with youth leadership training and opportunities for personal development. The program is run by the YMCA of South Australia and generously supported by the South Australian Government (through the Office for Youth) and the Law Foundation of South Australia.
